Summer is Over, Life Goes on

I haven't entered a blog for several months, as you can see. In my busy life, and work, until today there has been little time. And too little to say. I did a set of 46 signs for my kids school Halloween Carnival, and I am starting on typesetting for a family calendar. I did two logos for freelance work, for Canyon School district, which was nice to get after a total lack of extra work. I added a family section of photos to my blog, from the last two years or so. A few newer portfolio pieces have been added to my portfolio set as well.

Actual, spring

I am preparing a presentation about my methods and tricks, such as vector art creation and tiling and photo treatments, for our thursday lunch gathering at Allen Communication, where I make art for a living. Not sure what angle to present, so that I don't come across as preachy, or stupid. I don't have training in teaching, and many people here have advanced degrees.
The title of my presentation is My Experiments in Conceptual Art. It contains alot of the ideas I have had and played with apart from work projects.

thoughts, lately

Spring is almost here, and though it snowed today, I feel a lightening of heart and a springier step. I listened to a talk by Milton Glaser, famous graphic designer, on TED.com. It was a bit enlightening, but also refreshing that someone as famous doesn't overwhelm me with insight and skill. There are lots of great talks on that site, and I just got started.

I hadn't posted for a while. I got a laptop with my wife, two weeks ago, but haven't had much time to use it. I am behind times, and we are strapped financial, though less so than a few months ago, because of an increase in baby sitting, (for my wife).

After winter, life goes on.

New Additions and Ideas

I am in the midst of adding and modifying the sample images you see in my work below. Check out the changes thus far. I will be adding more description to each of the pieces, so their purposes, construction and skills shown will be more evident. I mean to do the same to my professional work soon . . .

Success

I created this site so that my most recent work and comments about it could be seen by friends and family. I expect any fame, and don't wish any, but I do want to show what I have done, having been a sketcher, a prepress artist and graphic designer for over 15 years. You're work doesn't count for much if noone can see it.
Now I have been able to put in two albums of images, professional and personal, for your viewing. I am open to do further work if you need help with a project . . . but I am not now opening seeking work with this site. I am currently a graphic designer at an elearning company, and it has been my dream job, as you can see from some of the professional pieces linked to below.

Second Week thoughts

Second week of January 09. Trying to get select images of my professional work to show up here. Thought I had it, but it doesn't seem to work. If you view again, maybe it will showup . . . Reply with an email if you like them, or want to criticize them. They are from various projects over the last several years, but they contain largely pretty recent work. My website has older stuff in it, which is referenced elsewhere in this blog.
I want to keep my blogs short and on one purpose, so they are easier to write and read quickly.

What's Sproctacle?

A first entry to my new blog, entered on a slow day, waiting for work to pickup. Sproctacle is my website as well, at www.sproctacle.bravehost.com. Sproctacle is a mashed word with multiple meanings, that grew organically from my connection to spectacles, or parades of visual information, and sprockets, or mechanical means of moving - it's combined meaning is a place where I can show the images that have been paid to churn out over a career in graphic design and an interest in odd conceptual drawing over 25 years or so. Now I am on to the task of adding images and stuff to this blog, to show what I mean.
